Hi, I’m Toine. I grew up in the Netherlands and moved to the United States in the nineties. For thirty years I’ve been cooking the food I grew up with: Dutch classics like stroopwafels, bitterballen, and stamppot, and Indonesian dishes I learned in the Dutch Navy and from years of eating at Indonesian restaurants in the Netherlands.
Every recipe on this site comes with a full YouTube video so you can follow along at home. The instructions are detailed on purpose — I want someone who has never made kroket before to be able to pull it off on their first try. All recipes include both imperial and metric measurements.
If you grew up in the Netherlands and miss the food, or if you’re curious about what Dutch and Indonesian cooking actually tastes like, you’re in the right place. Take a look at the recipe page, or start with one of the latest below.
If you have visited The Netherlands and enjoyed some of our delicious food, feel free to reach out to me on the contact page to request that I make something specific!
If you have made one of my recipes, please share a photo on Instagram with the hashtag #ToinesKitchen, and it’ll be shared on our webpage!

Tried some new recipes for Christmas this year. Chocoflan and bitterballen were a huge hit!
My previous video on how to make `zuurvlees` uses a bit of speculaas kruiden which I didn`t have so I made it. Recipes for speculaas kruiden may vary a little, for example some use mace. I didn`t have that so I added a lil pumpkin and a bit of allspice. Thank you for the recipe toineskitchen .
I have made many of your recipes and will post what I can! 🙏🏻
